New York Man Fights For The Right To Bring 'Beastie Boys Square' To The 5 Boroughs
NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Check it out! A Brooklyn man wants to rename a lower Manhattan street after the Beastie Boys.
At a community board transportation committee meeting on Tuesday night, LeRoy McCarthy was told that he will have to get more signatures on his petition before a vote can be held on his request to name a street after the New York hip-hop trio.

McCarthy wants to rename the corner of Ludlow and Rivington streets on the Lower East Side "Beastie Boys Square", 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon reported.
The intersection of Ludlow and Rivington is featured on the cover of the group's second album "Paul's Boutique".
McCarthy brought his petition to the community board on Tuesday night but was told to come back with more signatures from neighborhood residents.
Committee chair David Crane also pointed out that the request did not meet board guidelines for a traditional request for street co-naming because it is not for a non-profit organization with a history in the neighborhood or for an individual who is deceased.
In spite of those hurdles McCarthy remained optimistic about his chances.
"They're very enthusiastic about the opportunity to have Beastie Boys Square on their sign post," he said.
Board member Chad Marlow indicated that he might support the proposal.
"Despite that New York City invented hip hop we have one street in Queens named after Run DMC," he said.
In 2013, a park in Brooklyn was named for deceased Beastie Boy Adam Yauch.
If the transportation committee and the community board agree to the name change it will be passed on to the city council.
