New York City's Best Nachos

Cheesy, carb-y nachos are the ideal dish for sharing, whether you're settling in for Thursday Night Football or catching up with friends. So get a group together and head to one of New York City's best spots for nachos. Don't see your favorite spot for nachos? We've covered this topic before. By Adrienne Smith.

Commodore
366 Metropolitan Ave.
Brooklyn, NY 11211
(718) 218-7632

This retro Williamsburg bar serves up homey Southern food with a kick thanks to owner Chef Stephen Tanner, a co-founder of the nearby Pies-N-Thighs. The Commodore's popular fried chicken platter features three thighs and biscuits with honey butter and hot sauces. But whatever you do, order the Cadillac Nachos. The pile of nachos arrives dripping with creamy white queso, plus jalapenos, three salsas, pinto beans, tomato and onion.

Calexico
153 Rivington St
New York, NY 10002
(646) 590-4172
www.calexico.net

Calexico started out as a food cart dishing out Mexican food across New York City. The carts, wildly popular, have since expanded to include brick-and-mortar locations in Greenpoint, the Lower East Side, Park Slope and Red Hook. Calexico's nachos have long been a star on the menu. A blend of both cheese and creamy cheese sauce makes these nachos, at $10, a delightfully goopy mess. The guacamole, roasted corn, black beans, pickled jalapenos and pico de gallo toppings are just an added bonus.

Professor Thom's
219 2nd Ave
New York, NY 10003
(212) 260-9480
www.professorthoms.com

Professor Thom's has been serving its old-school nachos for years. In fact, we included this East Village sports bar in our first roundup of New York's best nachos. They remain a New York nacho staple although, beware Yankee fans, this is a Boston bar. Slip into a booth – each has its own TV showing the game – and go big or go home with the Triple Nachos platter for $26.95. Served on a 18-inch pizza tray, mounds of crispy chips are simply topped with tons of cheese, guacamole, sour cream, salsa and jalapenos.

Relative newcomer Taqueria Diana exploded onto New York's nacho scene. Be sure to come hungry. The bustling spot – found on a prime corner off Saint Mark's Place in the East Village – serves its nachos on a sheet tray. White cheddar, jalapenos, sour cream and pinto/black/refried beans are heaped onto the nachos, while salsas are available in squeeze bottles. Add on carnitas and guacamole for about $12 for some of the best nachos in New York.

Pork Slope
247 5th Ave
Brooklyn, NY 11215
(718) 768-7675
www.porkslopebrooklyn.com

Park Slope's Pork Slope is Chef Dale Talde's take on the classic dive bar. You'll find TVs playing the games-of-the-day and plenty of beer and whiskey. But the food is the star here. The menu is filled with simple bar food items, each elevated and perfected by Talde. The loaded nachos feature house-fried chips, shredded cheese, bean and beef chili, jalapenos, tomatoes and onions. But the kicker is Talde's creamy Sriracha-enhanced cheese sauce, combining all the nacho ingredients into one delectable mess. Grab a small for $10 or share a large with a friend for $17. And load up on napkins.
