New York Cares Struggling To Meet Demand In Annual Coat Drive
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - On this frigid day, a charitable group has appealed for donations of winter coats.
As WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported, New York Cares said they're facing a shortfall in their annual coat drive.
"We are having distribution events right now where we do not have enough coats for all of the people waiting in line to get coats," New York Cares executive director Gary Bagley told Haskell.

Bagley said their supply is down 35 percent, while the demand is up by 25 percent compared with an average year.
"Our goal is to get to the 100,000 coats that we currently have requests for," he told Haskell.
Bagley has urged anyone who's able to give to make a donation.
Following superstorm Sandy last year, New York Cares received a record 123,000 coats, the New York Times reported.
Donations can be made at Grand Central Terminal, Penn Station, Atlantic Terminal or Jamaica Station on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Coats can also be dropped off at your local police precinct 24 hours a day. For more information, click here.
