New York Attorney General Letitia James Gives Update On Investigation Into Possible NYPD Misconduct During Protests
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - New York Attorney General Letitia James updated the investigation into the NYPD's response to recent protests throughout the city.
The preliminary report includes a detailed account of interactions between officers and protesters between late May and June.
It also includes recommendations for police reform.

Her office held public hearings last month, with testimony from more than 100 witnesses.

From NYPD vehicles lurching into crowds to Molotov cocktails being thrown at police cruisers, cameras have captured tense and sometimes violent moments between protesters and police in the wake of George Floyd's killing.
Some officers were disciplined by the department for actions observed during the protests.

While the investigation is ongoing, James says New Yorkers have lost faith in the police and the process to get justice.
"The police should not police themselves, period. And it requires change, and it requires reform, and it requires transparency and accountability," James said. "At this point in time, why is this one agency treated so differently than all of the others?"
In response, the NYPD called on state and local law enforcement and elected officials to come together to solves the current crisis instead of "rehashing rhetoric."
