New Street Sweepers To Play Role In de Blasio's 'Vision Zero' Plan
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- As part of Mayor Bill de Blasio's 'Vision Zero' plan the city is getting new street sweepers that will give drivers a better view of the road.
As WCBS-880's Rich Lamb reported, the new street sweepers have huge windows in contrast to previous models. Sanitation Commissioner Katherine Garcia said it will make streets safer for pedestrians and cars.

"We don't always get perfect compliance from the people who park in the city of New York which means our broom operators are often doing a little dance in and out of traffic to get at that curb, so having the ability to see what's happening is really, makes them much more effective," she said.
The new sweepers cost about $225,000 each and in addition to affording more visibility are quieter and less polluting than prior mechanical brooms.
