New Online Map To Show NYC's Solar Energy Potential
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A new online map will show solar energy potential for every building in New York City will make its debut next week.
City University of New York researchers flew planes in a grid pattern over the five boroughs. Lasers charted 15 billion points, creating a 3-D map of the city's one million buildings.
"We're able to determine even the shadowing that a building or a tree might put on a building or on the ground so that we can now determine how much solar can generated from that particular location," said CUNY Director of Sustainability Tria Case.
