New Mother Gives Birth On Flight To JFK
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A plane landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport this weekend with an extra passenger.
A baby was born several hours into the flight from Johannesburg, South Africa, to JFK, CBS 2 reported.
Lucky for the mother – Fatawmatt Kaba, 17, of Angola – two doctors were onboard when she gave birth on the South African Airways flight Saturday, according to a New York Daily News report.
Emergency medical technicians delivered Kaba and her newborn son – Mamel Joella – to Jamaica Hospital as soon as the plane landed, the newspaper reported.
The flight was about four hours into its 16-hour trip, and 38,000 feet in the air over West Africa, at the time Kaba gave birth, according to the newspaper. The baby will not be a U.S. citizen, since he was not born in U.S. airspace, the paper reported.
