New Jersey Towns Make Up For Rained-Out July Fourth Festivities

PARAMUS, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A soggy Independence Day dashed parade plans for many towns in New Jersey.

As CBS 2's Janelle Burrell reported, the crowds that lined the streets of Paramus with their American flags Saturday were all celebrating the Fourth of July holiday a day late after the event was rained out Friday.

"It was a good decision because the weather, even though it didn't pour in the morning. Look at the day we had today! Gorgeous!" said paradegoer Joann Angelucci.

Little Olivia, decked out in her red, white and blue ensemble agreed. The highlight for her, "was the fire truck!"

"Enjoying the crowd and the music. Awesome!" said Gladys Puentes.

About 10 miles away in Tenafly, residents were also making up for their rained out Independence Day festivities.

Organizers of the community festival said Saturday's sunny forecast made moving the event a no-brainer.

"The day was a home run, so it was easy to make the decision to make the move," said recreation director Matt Mercurio.

Back in Paramus, the festivities aren't quite over yet. They actually wrap up Sunday with a concert and full fireworks display.
