New Jersey Officials: Stay Away From Hudson River In Jersey City After Sewer Break
JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The New Jersey state Department of Environmental Protection warned residents Friday not to have direct contact with the lower Hudson River or fish in those waters due to a sewer main break.
A 54-inch high-pressure sewer line ruptured between Randolph Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive on the railroad cut, according to an NJ.com report. The break was discovered by crews Thursday night, the publication reported.
The sewer main break has requiring the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority to discharge untreated sewage into the Upper Bay near Liberty State Park Marina, and from other points in the lower Hudson River.
The advisory for the lower Hudson River, New York Bay and Kill Van Kull will remain in effect until further notice.
