New Jersey DOT Tries To Tackle 300,000 Potholes
HAMILTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- There's a bumper crop of potholes and New Jersey transportation crews are trying to get rid of them.
As WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported, the state typically fills 180,000 potholes a year, but this season has been a little more challenging.
New Jersey DOT Tries To Tackle 300K Potholes
"We intend to repair or fill 300,000 potholes," Department of Transportation Commissioner Jamie Fox said.
Fox said the harsh winter is to blame for the uptick in potholes.
"When you have a lot of ice, which we did this past winter, it causes more damage than sometimes when you have a lot of snow," the commissioner said.
This year, New Jersey DOT is using 13 pothole-filling machines in addition to road crews.
