With Christie On The Campaign Trail, Democrats Pickup Three Seats In New Jersey
TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- While Governor Christie was out campaigning for the GOP Presidential nomination, back in New Jersey, Democrats were busy taking three seats from Republicans in Tuesday's election.
It remained to be seen how the election results would impact issues like funding road projects and pension reform.
Senate President Steve Sweeney said the first pension reform he and Christie struck with unions 4-years-ago, may have been fiscally tough to honor, but since the governor decided not to strain the state budget to make payments, there could be holdups in getting a second one done.
"But if you don't do the first one, what do you do? Listen I really mean it this time. I will really keep my word this time. That's the problem, that's why the governor gets so mad at me all the time because I am telling him he has to keep his word on this," Sweeney told WCBS-880's Levon Putney.
Sweeney would not say when he thinks the state will reach another deal with unions.
