New I-95 Darien Rest Stop Opens Thursday
DARIEN, C.T. (CBSNewYork) - A new rest stop will open on Thursday along I-95 in Connecticut just in time for a June travel weeekend.
It will be a haven for truckers and a nice soft landing spot for motorists.
The northbound service area in Darien, built in the 1950s, has been stripped and completely redone.

Motorists can fill up at any one of the 24 fueling points and, according to Paul Landino, who oversees the massive project, amenities such as the internet, electric power, air conditioning, and heat are offered to weary truckers.
"They can shut their truck down. There's a small nominal cost per hour to use the service and it's much less than the cost of burning fuel and it eliminates the truck noise from a truck just sitting there and idiling," Landino told WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau.
From the Vince Lombardi Service Area in New Jersey, this is the very next stop heading north into New England.
Motorists can choose between nine different food services - from BBQ to Dunkin' Donuts - and the plaza has a massive backup generator, which ensures continued power even in the worst kind of weather.
"If the power goes out for any reason whatsoever, that generator is designed to run the entire plaza. So, every fuel dispenser will operate, every diesel dispenser will operate, every restaurant will have a full menu, bathrooms, everything is operational," Landino said.
