New Form For NYPD In Stop And Frisk Situations
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) - Now, every time force is used during a so-called stop and frisk in New York, the officer will have to check a box stating the reason.

"This form is the result of a lawsuit, a negotiation with a plaintiff in a lawsuit called the Daniel case," said NYPD comissioner Ray Kelly on Tuesday.
Kelly says the change is designed to provide a clearer understanding of the circumstances surrounding street stops.
The form itself was recommended by a law enforcement think tank.
"The RAND Corporation made a recommendation that we know specifically more about the types of force that were used. So, we put a checklist on the form," says Kelly.
An officer can check a box if the suspect reached for a weapon, if self defense or defense of another was used, or if the suspect fled or resisted.
But the New York Civil Liberties Union, which brought the case which sparked the change, calls the new form window dressing that won't provide honest answers.
