New Blasting Begins For 2nd Avenue Subway
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - If you live on the Upper East Side, be prepared for some shaking. There is new blasting underground for the 2nd Avenue Subway.

The MTA told WCBS 880 that design modifications to the "muck houses," as they're known above ground, will better mitigate the effects of underground blasting.
There are also new outreach efforts via e-mails and site tours in the neighborhood.

But an MTA official told AM New York there is no such thing as "immaculate construction" and one 45-year neighborhood resident, who didn't want to give her name, said patience wears thin.
"There are a number of things that can occur. Rationally, any one of us can understand it. Emotionally, it is another story, because it's our neighborhood," she told WCBS 880 reporter Paul Murnane on Monday. "They're making so damn much noise with all the heavy equipment, whether they're blasting or not. They've actually worked until 1 in the morning, not a lot, occasionally."
Blasting projects near 63rd and 72nd Streets are reportedly near completion. It is expected next around 84th Street.
