New At The Movies: 'The Tourist' And 'The Fighter'
NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- The Christmas movie season kicks off today and there are plenty of flicks to choose from: a sports film based on a true story, a Shakespearean drama, a fantasy flick and an action film starring two fo the biggest box office superstars.
Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie are looking for a box office win with their new action thriller "The Tourist." Frank (Depp) is an American vacationing in Europe when he meets Elise (Jolie). She pulls him into a web of romance and danger that he may not be able to himself out of.
"The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader" is something for the whole family to enjoy. The latest film in the fantasy franchise finds Lucy and Edmund, along with their young cousin, heading back to the magical land where they rejoin Caspian and set sail on an adventure that is their destiny.
Out in limited release is "The Company Men." Ben Affleck stars as Bobby Walker who is trying to put his life back together after losing his job. The flick also features Oscar winners Tommy Lee Jones and Chris Cooper.
In "The Tempest," Academy Award-winner Helen Mirren leads a stellar cast as Prospera in an updated take on the Shakespeare classic.
Mark Wahlberg is putting on the gloves for a shot at Oscar gold. In "The Fighter," Wahlberg stars in the true story of Mickey Ward -- a blue-collar boxer looking for his shot at the title. Christian Bale portrays Ward's half-brother, Dickie Eklund, who fell into a life of drugs and crime after losing his shot at a championship belt.
Bale recently received Best Supporting Actor honors from the National Board of Review for his role.
