Reports: Nets Take A Chance On Former No. 1 Overall Pick Anthony Bennett
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Anthony Bennett, the first overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, is reportedly signing with the Brooklyn Nets.
The 6-foot-8 power forward has signed a two-year contract with the Nets, according to multiple reports.
Since becoming the top pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers, Bennett, 23, has been labeled a bust and has bounced around the league.
He played in 52 games with Cleveland as a rookie, averaging 4.2 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. He was then sent to Minnesota in the same trade that brought Kevin Love to the Cavaliers. That season, Bennett played in 57 games, starting three, and averaged 5.2 points and 3.8 rebounds.
The Timberwolves bough out Bennett's contract, and he signed a one-year deal last season with Toronto, where he split time between the Raptors and their Development League team. He was waived in March.
Since trading Thaddeus Young to Indiana, Brooklyn has signed three power forwards, the others being former Jazz player Trevor Booker and another ex-Raptor, Luis Scola.
The Nets also have reached agreements on deals with shooting guards Randy Foye and Joe Harris, Yahoo's The Vertical reported Thursday.
Foye, 32, is a 10-year veteran who began last season with Denver before being traded to Oklahoma City. He averaged 5.9 points while playing about 20 minutes per game in 2015-16. His contract is reportedly for one year.
Harris played in 51 games with Cleveland as a rooki ein 2014-15, averaging 2.7 points per game. He played just five games last season before suffering a season-ending foot injury. Harris was traded to Orlando in January in a cap-clearing move and then promptly waived.
The Nets, under first-year general manager Sean Marks, have also signed center Justin Hamilton, point guard Jeremy Lin and guard Greivis Vasquez in free agency this month.
