The economy has been tough on many but Ian Maksik says there's money to be made if you're willing to become a waiter.
Maksik, aka the "King of the Caterers," is co-founder of the Service Arts Institute which is where he trains waiters.
"The waiter has to be an athlete, mathematician, psychiatrist, a psychologist and an actor." Maksik said.
Maksik said restaurant waiters pull in $60-90,000 a year. He says one unionized waiter at a Manhattan hotel made $240,000 a year.
Maksik said there is never a shortage of job openings in the restaurant business.
He said if you walk down a New York City street you'll see signs in restaurant windows seeking experienced waiters. Maksik offers three tips for a successful career as a food server.
"Eye contact, name recognition and kill for the guest."
Maksik will soon be training waiters in Tribeca. To find a class click here.
