Nearly Half Give LIRR High Marks In New Poll
MINEOLA, NY (WCBS 880) - Despite some major services disruptions this past year, cuts in service and a fare hike, riders seem to be happy with the service on the Long Island Rail Road.
After more than 800 Long Islanders were surveyed, 49 percent said they thought the Long Island Rail Road was doing a good or excellent job.

"They understand that sometimes the weather plays a role and there are going to be difficult days in during the winter season, typically, but otherwise, day in and day out, I think they feel it provides an efficient service, and they're satisfied with it," said the LIRR's Sal Arena of the Newsday/Siena College poll.

According to the survey, 40 percent said service was good and 9 said it was excellent. 10 percent called it poor.
Narrowed to regular LIRR riders, 44 percent said it was good and 14 percent called it excellent, with 15 percent calling it poor.
But one concern the riders said needs to be improved is communication.
"We have been complaining about communication for a while. That does not cost any money. So, it can't be blamed on an MTA budget," said Mark Epstein of the LIRR Commuter Council.
Arena said communication has improved with the 24/7 public information office.
