WATCH: NBA's David Stern Hears It From Crowd After 'Katrina' Flub
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It was an honest mistake from NBA Commissioner David Stern.
But the crowd heard it -- and then he heard it from the crowd.
"Before we begin, I know that everyone here and around America watching has, in their thoughts and their abiding concerns, those who were affected by the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath," Stern said Tuesday night to kick off a pregame ring presentation in Miami.
While many in the Gulf region are still feeling the effects of Katrina seven years later, what Stern meant to say was "Hurricane Sandy," which devastated the Tri-State area and other portions of the East Coast early this week.

A loud murmur rose from the crowd and lasted nearly 30 seconds while Stern, who will step down as commissioner in Feb. 2014, doled out congratulations to the Miami Heat organization for last season's championship.
