National Guardsman Killed When Military Vehicle Crashes With Car In Rye
RYE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Connecticut national guardsman has been killed and two other people have been injured in a crash on southbound Interstate 95 in Westchester County.
Authorities say a National Guard truck and a car crashed at around 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Rye. It happened at an exit that connects I-95 to Interstate 287.
The passenger in the truck was killed. The driver of the truck and the driver of the second vehicle were taken to hospitals.
The Connecticut National Guard said both people in the truck were soldiers. Their names were not immediately released.
The National Guard said the truck was transporting training materiel to Fort Dix, New Jersey.
The truck landed upside down on the grass along the shoulder of the road.
Footage from the scene showed the hood of the car that was impacted was completely torn off and the front end of the car was crushed. Numerous crates of debris littered the side of the road.
