Nassau University Medical Center Goes To Emergency Power
EAST MEADOW, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - A hospital on Long Island was forced to switch to emergency generator power Monday morning.
Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow said in a statement that a burned out switch caused a power outage at 11:15 a.m.
An emergency command center was activated at 11:55 a.m.
The statement said that electricians were working to repair the electrical feed to the hospital and that it was expected that power will be restored in a few hours.
The hospital said the situation has not affected patient safety or quality and that all needed electrical power support for inpatient and emergency services has continued uninterrupted.
As a precaution, they have canceled ambulatory services on the campus for this afternoon.
