Nassau Teenager Arrested For Weapons Possession, Injury Of Police Officer
UNIONDALE, NY (AP) - Police say an armed Long Island teenager is under arrest after allegedly breaking a police officer's thumb while resisting arrest.
Nassau County police say officers spotted 17-year-old Shadrach Ford in possession of a handgun in Uniondale Wednesday evening.
When they attempted to question him, police say he fled.
Police caught up with him and while attempting to detain him, Ford allegedly took hold of an officer's thumb and broke it.
Police charged Ford with criminal possession of a weapon, assault and resisting arrest. He was scheduled to be arraigned in Hempstead on Thursday.
It was not immediately known if the Uniondale resident had a lawyer.
The officer was treated for his injuries at a hospital.
