Nassau, Suffolk Counties Mull Proposal For Domestic Violence Ankle Monitors
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- There may soon be a new way to help the victims of domestic violence on Long Island.
As WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported, we've heard it over and over again: What does an order of protection really prevent? Because it's just a piece of paper.
Many victims of domestic violence have been murdered, even though they have had orders of protection against their attackers, Hall reported.

But now, lawmakers in both Nassau and Suffolk counties have proposed putting ankle bracelets on those who have orders of protection against them in domestic violence cases.
And if the offender breaks the law and get too close to the victim, the police would be notified immediately.
Under the proposals, the victims would also have devices alerting them to when the offender is nearby, Hall reported.
