Nassau DA: Burned Home Had Dog Treadmills, Syringes, Supplements
FREEPORT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Authorities found syringes, medications and supplements for dogs, dog treadmills and a female dog restraint for breeding inside a Long Island home that caught fire Friday, prosecutors said Sunday.
The Nassau County district attorney's office made the revelations in a series of tweets Sunday afternoon.
Anthony Reddick is facing 18 counts of felony and misdemeanor animal-fighting charges after 13 dead pit bulls were found in his one-car garage in Freeport that went up in flames.
Three other pit bulls were found alive, police said.
Reddick fled the scene when the fire broke out, but was arrested Saturday afternoon, a spokesman for the DA's office said.
"Breeding & training animals to fight for their lives in violent contests... is cruel & should be stopped wherever it's found," District Attorney Kathleen Rice said on Twitter. "The laws covering animal fighting need reform but my office will work with whatever legal tools we have available."
