Nassau County 'ShotSpotter' System Gets Video Upgrade
WESTBURY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Nassau County officials on Tuesday unveiled an upgraded ShotSpotter system.
As WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported, the ShotSpotter Gunshot Location System has earned praise from many law enforcement officials in Nassau since it's been in use.
The system has been upgraded to include cameras in an effort to track down shooters.

The video cameras pan to the area where shots were fired to record a license plate, a car, a face or anything else that can help catch the suspect, Hall reported.
"Once ShotSpotter picks up gunfire, the cameras in the area will automatically relocate to that location as well as exit locations within four to seven seconds of where the shot was fired," Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano said. "ShotSpotter system has proven to be very effective reducing gunshot instances by approximately 90 percent," said Mangano.
The new system was paid for using funds collected from criminals. No taxpayer dollars were used.
