Nassau County Rolls Out New Emergency Traffic Response System
NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- A new emergency traffic response system is being rolled out in Nassau County.
The modernized system is aimed at helping to improve traffic flow for emergency vehicles along Northern Boulevard, one of the biggest and most congested secondary roads in the county.

Thanks to a grant secured by Assemblywoman Michell Schimel eight traffic lights will be equipped with a special GPS system that will make lights change from red to green so emergency vehicles can get to their destinations quicker and safer.
"This preemption technology will not only enhance public and firefighters' safety, it will improve traffic flow," she told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall.
Ambulance Captain Joel Rosenthal hoped that the technology would reduce accidents at intersections.
"Over my tenure I have witnessed some horrific accident, many of which occurred at intersections," he said.
