Police said when the victim went back inside her Academy Street home a short time later she discovered jewelry and cash had been taken.
"I'm living here 60 years and never had to close my door," the victim told 1010 WINS' Mona Rivera.
The alleged burglaries have residents on high alert.
"Key is don't even give them access. No, do not open the door," one woman told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs. "The reality is everybody is not your friend."
Police said the thieves use two way-radios to communicate.
One of the suspects is said to be in her 40s, approximately 5' 3", short black hair, glasses and an accent.
This incident follows a string of similar crimes committed across Nassau County.
Police said since Dec. 9, teams of two have targeted senior citizens in Wantagh, Massapequa Park, Jericho, West Hempstead and Merrick. They have posed as utility workers or home repair contractors.
