Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano Lists Options For Plugging Budget Hole If Speed Cameras Repealed
MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Cuts to social services, police and the county medical center are among the suggestions being offered by the Nassau County executive as a way to fill the $30 million budget gap that would be left by repealing the school zone speed camera program.
County Executive Ed Mangano is also suggesting selling billboard advertising on county roads and facilities, WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reported.
Lawmakers will meet Friday to discuss the options.

Legislative Presiding Officer Norma Gonsalves said she is committed to not raising taxes.
"We would work with the county executive and the comptroller in trying to come up with ways in which we can plug that hole," she said.
The county Legislature is expected to unanimously approve repeal of Nassau's controversial speed camera program Monday.
Many residents — some who said they have received multiple $80 tickets — have complained that there aren't enough signs warning drivers of speed camera locations.
Lawmakers admitted that public outrage over the program is fueling the likely repeal and blamed its failure on poor implementation.
"Everywhere you went ... be it a Veterans Day celebration or something else, law-abiding people really felt an unfairness about the way the program was done," Legislator Don MacKenzie said earlier this week.
