Nassau Comptroller Announces Budget Surplus
MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Nassau County officials announced some good financial news, although there are some questioning the numbers.
County Comptroller George Maragos said Nassau will end its 2012 fiscal year with a $41.6 million budget surplus.
But he admits federal Sandy relief is a big part of the reason why.

"The Presidential declaration will result in us eventually receiving 90 percent of the $100 million that the county has spent," Maragos said. "We expect 90 percent to be reimbursed from the federal government through FEMA, which leaves approximately $10 million in additional cost that the county had to incur."
However, Democratic candidate for county executive Tom Suozzi called the surplus claim phony.
He said the numbers don't include more than $300 million in property tax reimbursement.
