Nassau County police said he's responsible for at least six break-ins or attempted break-ins in Great Neck and Kings Point.
The suspect apparently tried to strike again early Wednesday morning, but a 17-year-old girl may have scared him off.
"When I walked into the bathroom, it really hit me when I heard the window. Someone was trying, I felt like someone was trying to come in," she said.
Police said the suspect has a history of violence, and that DNA linked him to the beating of a Hempstead woman, and the rape of a 2-year-old girl in Texas.
