Nanuet Man Gets 15-Month Prison Sentence For Making Death Threats Against Politicians
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A Rockland County man who admitted making death threats on Facebook against several well-known politicians has been sentenced to 15 months in prison.
A federal judge told Lawrence Mulqueen he is entitled to have opinions, but his postings had crossed the line into criminal behavior.
The Nanuet man had posted threats to the lives of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Sen. Charles Schumer, Rep. Nita Lowey, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Harry Reid and members of the Congressional Black Caucus.
He wrote that he couldn't wait to start killing them.
"Their dirt nap is coming very soon," Mulqueen allegedly wrote on Facebook.
In court Wednesday, the 50-year-old Mulqueen said he wouldn't have posted the threats if he had been sober. He apologized for the violence they implied.
Mulqueen's landlady turned him in to police in February and said he'd been harassing her. She told police about the Facebook page.
Mulqueen pleaded guilty in May. If he had gone to trial, Mulqueen would have faced up to 15 years in prison.
