Names Of Six Fallen NYPD Officers Added To Wall Of Heroes
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The names of six fallen New York City Police Department officers have been added to the Wall of Heroes at One Police Plaza.
Five of the six died after performing rescue, recovery and clean-up work following the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.
They are Captain Dennis Morales, Lieutenant Christopher Pupo, Sergeant Garrett Danza, Detective Alick Herrmann, and Police Officer Denis McLarney.
Also honored was Detective Fermin Archer who died from injuries received in a vehicle accident while on duty.

"These officers rushed to assist us when we were in harm's way, and they always put the safety of others above their own," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said. "We remember them with tremendous pride and gratitude – and we promise that none of them will ever be forgotten. It is because of officers like these that New York City is the safest big city in the nation today."
"The six men we honor today were heroes," said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly. "They gave their lives in service to the public, to the cause of making New York City safe for all. Today they join the roll call of honor that is our Hall of Heroes."
Kelly said Morales directed hundreds of civilians and fellow officers to safety when the Twin Towers collapsed.

"He narrowly escaped death by jumping into an ambulance as concrete and debris rained down around him," Kelly said.
After the attacks, Morales worked at ground zero for months. He died in July 2012 at age 50.
After 9/11, Hermann spent six months at the Fresh Kills landfill on Staten Island "searching for victims' remains and belongings and helping to bring closure to their loved ones," Kelly said.
Hermann died on Dec. 23, 2011 at the age of 49.
"We pledge to let the example of their excellence stand for the ages," Kelly said of all the fallen officers.
