Rutgers University Announces Robert Barchi As New President
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (CBSNewYork / AP) - Rutgers University's Board of Governors met Wednesday and announced its selection of Robert Barchi as the university's new president.
The selection was supposed to be a secret until today's meeting, but on Tuesday, technology entered the mix.
WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported that the university's website had a photo of the then yet-to-be-named future president.
The photo was online in the media relations section until a Star-Ledger reporter inquired about the photo, which carried a file name indicating Barchi's approval.
Barchi is a 64-years-old neurologist who has spent the past eight years as president of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.
He is Rutgers University's 20th president and replaces outgoing president Richard McCormick.
