N.J. Voters Encouraged To Cast Ballots Early At County Elections Offices
TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - There are extended weekend hours at New Jersey's county elections offices, and Governor Chris Christie and his administration are encouraging voters to take advantage of the benefit and cast their vote prior to Election Day.
New Jersey voters that are registered can vote in person by attending their county clerk's office no later than 3 p.m. on Monday.
Once a ballot is received from the clerk's office, a voter has the opportunity to complete it and then deliver it to their respective county board of elections office.
Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno has announced that county election offices will be open -- at a minimum -- from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. They will be open until November 5.
"The extent of Hurricane Sandy's destruction is impossible to fully describe," Guadagno, who serves as the Secretary of State of New Jersey and is currently overseeing the Division of Elections, said in a statement. "For many New Jerseyans, the hurricane's impact may have made Election Day the last thing on their minds, but we want to make voting as easy as possible considering the devastating circumstances.
"Despite the devastation that surrounds many of our citizens, we are committed to upholding and honoring our nation's ideals and having an open and transparent election."
