N.J. Residents Enjoy Glorious Day At The Shore In Spite Of Tough Summer
BRICK, N.J.(CBSNewYork) -- Clouds parted and temperatures rose to the 80's on Saturday as beach goers made one of the final trips of the season to the beach in Brick.
The beach was already jammed by noon after a tough summer that saw beach attendance drop a reported 58-percent, CBS 2's Steve Langford reported.
Food stands were busy and workers did not have a second to speak with reporters.
"Get in their last licks and enjoy what was and hopefully by next year everything will be back to 100-percent," Elizabeth Kearns said.
The forecast for Labor Day Weekend was not terrific but New Jersey residents were out enjoying what could have been the last great day of Summer 2013.
A beach parking lot that had been filled with sand and debris for months after Superstorm Sandy was packed with cars on Saturday.
"We were lucky we filled up the lot. Business wasn't that good this year," a lot attendant said.
Within walking distance of the beach were sobering reminders that New Jersey has not fully recovered from the storm, but residents were proud of the comeback.
"If you just come down and see how much we've done since the storm you'll be really happy," Mary Leide said.
Revenue from beach passes in Monmouth and Ocean Counties was reportedly down over $4-million this summer.
