N.J. Pharmaceutical Giant Tries To Boost Local Econ.

NUTLEY, NJ (WCBS 880) - Sharing the wealth, trickle-down economics - whatever you want to call it, pharmaceutical giant Hoffman La Roche is trying to help the little guy - the mom and pop shops in Clifton and Nutley.

LISTEN: WCBS 880's Sean Adams reports

The company has given its employees blue and yellow coupons to spend in local stores - particularly on their lunch breaks.

Business is up at the Nutley Bagel Boy.

Michael Scott said to WCBS 880 reporter Sean Adams, "An extra 10, 15 percent."

Adams replied, "That's nice."

Scott responded, "Absolutely!"

John Reciniello has seen a 35 percent drop in business since the recession. His Center Deli has some tempting offers for the Roche folks:

"Pasta fagioli... We make it white. We don't make it red usually. And then we have escarole and bean soup," said Reciniello.

"Just like mama used to make it," said Sean Adams.

Reciniello replied, "Yeah! She taught me. Yeah." Reciniello chuckled with pride as he said that.
