N.J. Military Drills May Involve Loud Explosions
NEW HANOVER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Residents and drivers in the area of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey may hear some loud explosions throughout the weekend.
U.S. Marine units have been conducting range training at the base. U.S. Armed Forces officials said residents should not be alarmed if they hear loud noises.
The 3rd Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment, Marine Wing Support Squadron 472, and the 2nd Battalion 25th Marine Regiment from Garden City, N.Y., started conducting firing training exercises on Friday at the Dix ranges. They plan to continue until March 10.
Nearby residents might even feel an occasional ground-shaking explosion.
Training is scheduled to end by 11 p.m. each day.
