Musician Stanley Wright Found Dead In Storage Trunk At Brooklyn Home

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police said a Brooklyn jazz musician missing since last week was found dead Tuesday inside a storage chest in his home.

Stanley Wright, 62, was reported missing earlier Tuesday by his son. Police checked his Brownsville home around 3:30 a.m. and found the body in the basement. He was last seen on Thursday when he went to move his car.

Sources said that authorities found signs of a struggle in the basement.

His sister, Theresa Wright, told CBS 2's Sean Hennessey that she thinks whoever killed the man "knew him very well."

"I can't even think who would do something like this to my brother," she said.

Wright had lived alone after his wife died a couple of years ago.

"They was married over 40-something years. That was his childhood sweetheart," the victim's sister told 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria.

Wright was a musician who once taught music at a Brooklyn middle school. He played the bass, piano and drums. He also played in clubs from Brooklyn to Harlem.

Leslie Brook Stevens, his neighbor, said he was very generous with his talent.

"He gave my son and my nephew guitars and tried to help them play that. You can pass by in the evening and hear him on the piano sometimes," she said.

The medical examiner's office will determine the cause of death.

Wright was the father of three children, including actress N'Bushe Wright who co-starred in the 1998 movie "Blade."
