Murphy Has Slim Lead Over McMahon In Latest Senate Poll

At 46 to 44 percent, Democratic Rep. Chris Murphy has a razor thin edge over Republican Linda McMahon in the latest Siena Research Institute Poll.
Director Don Levy said that those numbers are well within the margin of error, making it a virtual tie.
He told WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau it's an interesting perspective given the Connecticut polling for President.
"When you compare how the two Senate candidates are doing relative to the top of the ticket, then you see that something's going on with the Senate race," he said. "Barack Obama's 15 points ahead of Mitt Romney in Connecticut. But when you come down the ticket and you look at U.S. Senate, these two candidates are locked in a very tight race."
Levy noted that new voters enrolled for this election in Connecticut show a surge among Democrats and the unafilliated.
"It certainly bodes well for Chris Murphy. In our survery, Chris Murphy is getting about 71 percent of the Democrat vote, but yet he's trailing Linda McMahon amongst the unaffiliated," he said.
Levy also said that, when asked, voters said they had an unfavorable opinion of both candidates in the race. He said both Murphy and McMahon must stop their mud slinging.
Both Murphy and McMahon are vying for the seat being vacated by Sen. Joseph Lieberman. Election Day is Tuesday, November 6.
