Murder Trial Under Way For NJ Man Accused Of Tossing 2-Year-Old Daughter Into Creek
FREEHOLD, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A murder trial has started for a New Jersey man charged with tossing his 2-year-old daughter into a creek while she was still strapped in her car seat.
Arthur Morgan III of Eatontown is charged with murder, child endangerment and interference with custody in the November 2011 death of his daughter, Tierra Morgan-Glover.
Prosecutors said Morgan killed her during a court-approved visit by attaching a tire iron to her car seat to weigh it down before throwing it into a creek in Wall Township from an overpass.
The cause of death was determined to be homicidal violence, including submersion in water. An autopsy determined that she was alive when she hit the water.
Morgan fled to California following the child's death, and was found there by a fugitive recovery task force.
He faces a maximum sentence of life without parole, plus 15 years to be served consecutively, if convicted.
