2 Found Dead In Farmingdale, LIRR Line Shut Down
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police Tuesday evening were investigating two deaths in Farmingdale, in a probe that shut down the Ronkonkoma Branch of the Long Island Rail Road.
Several blocks were cordoned off late Tuesday in front of a building at 130 Secatogue Ave. in Farmingdale, officials told CBS 2.
Police told CBS 2 a woman in her 60s was found dead at the Secatogue Avenue address, police said. Officers, detectives and emergency responders surrounded the building while multiple white sheets covered the woman's body, CBS 2's Weijia Jiang reported.
About half a mile away, MTA police were notified of a man in his 30s who had been struck and killed by a train, police said.
Around 8:15 p.m., the train from Penn Station headed to Ronkonkoma hit a person just east of Bethpage station near Clinton Street in Farmingdale, police said.
CBS 2's Jiang spoke with a passenger who was stuck on the train for about two hours waiting for a rescue train to pick everyone up as police collected evidence.
Police said both victims were from Farmingdale, but it was not clear whether their deaths were related or what exactly happened.
The Ronkonkoma Branch was suspended in both directions as of 11 p.m., according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
