Mulgrew Critical Of Mayor's School Closure Plan
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Amid a much-heralded state deal on teacher evaluations designed to improve the schools, Mayor Michael Bloomberg says he's going ahead with his controversial plan to close 33 failing schools and possibly more down the raoad.

It's a path to destruction in the eyes of the head of the teacher's union.
"If he wants to continue to disparage teachers, then we're going to find it very hard to work with him," said Michael Mulgrew, president of the United Federation of Teachers.
Of the targeted schools, Mulgrew says seven were recently rated with an A or B grade in the mayor's progress report
"Why the mayor is threatening to close those schools is beyond me," Mulgrew told WCBS 880 reporter Marla Diamond.
The city and the UFT must come to an agreement on the teacher rating system for the city to receive $60 million in federal aid.
