MTA Will Not Rename Subway Stop After Ed Koch
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said it will not be renaming a subway station after former New York City mayor Ed Koch, CBS 2 has learned.
Rep. Carolyn Maloney had been expected to recommend Monday that the MTA rename the subway station at the corner of East 77th Street and Lexington Avenue as the "Mayor Ed Koch subway station."
But the MTA said they do not rename stations after people.
Maloney was also to announce that the corner was to be renamed as "Mayor Edward I. Koch" street.
City officials have also introduced legislation to have the station renamed. Maloney said Koch often campaigned at the 77th Street station and called it his favorite stop on the subway.
