MTA Service Resumes On More Than A Dozen Bus Routes
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Service was restored Sunday morning on more than a dozen previously scrapped bus routes.
Among the restored routes are the B39 between Williamsburg and the Lower East Side, the B57 in Brooklyn, the M9 in Manhattan, the BX34 in the Bronx and the Q27 in Queens. In all, 17 routes have either been restored or expanded.
MTA Service Resumes On More Than A Dozen Bus Routes
"Well it's good...put it back, it's very good for me," commuter Ramon Luna told WCBS 880's Monica Miller.
Luna said not having weekend bus service forced him to move from one borough to another.
"I was living in Queens, I moved to Brooklyn because on the weekends you got no service," Luna told Miller.
Luna said having some service restored makes it a little easier to accept the fare hike coming in March.
"They're putting back more buses it's ok, but if they cut it then the price goes higher it's going to get worse for everyone," Luna added.
Budget constraints caused the MTA to sideline the routes in 2010. But a surplus allowed the transit agency to being the lines back.
The MTA estimates the service will benefit about 50,000 riders.
Four additional bus lines will resume service later this month.
