MTA Police Save Choking Baby On Metro-North Platform
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - Tragedy was averted Sunday, thanks to the quick action of two MTA police officers, WCBS 880's Alex Silverman reported.

Officers Kieran Killilea and Paul Carufe saved a one-month-old girl who was choking on the platform at the Croton-Harmon station along the Metro-North Railroad in Westchester County.
"We made it to the station within two minutes," Carufe told Silverman. "My partner made it up the stairs in about six steps it seemed like."

Carufe said the baby, named Serenity, was frothing at the mouth. Her mother was beside herself.
"Kieran took the baby from the mother, turned her over, and gave it a few pats on the back," Carufe said.
First there was a cough.
"The baby started to cry a little bit, which we know that's a good thing, because if the baby is crying, the baby is breathing," he said.
That was all before an ambulance could get there.
The officers then monitored her breathing rate until emergency medical crews arrived. The mother and baby were taken to Westchester Medical Center by ambulance for further evaluation.
"It's one of those things when you come home and you're actually happy about going to work, you know. You actually feel good," Carufe said.
