The rail service will also delay trains scheduled to depart New York just before and just after midnight to accommodate people returning from festivities.
There are also longer hours or additional trains on other lines, including the Hudson-Bergen and River Line light rails.
The transit agency says it is strictly enforcing its ban on open containers of alcohol.
PATH trains will operate on a regular weekday schedule with additional service on the Newark to World Trade Center line.
Starting at 9:30 p.m., additional trains will operate on the Journal Square to 33rd Street and Hoboken to 33rd Street lines for passengers heading into New York City.
At midnight, service on the Journal Square to 33rd Street via Hoboken line will operate on a 10-minute schedule to accommodate crowds returning from Times Square.
If you plan on using the subway to get to Times Square to ring in 2015, the MTA said riders should avoid using the 42nd Street-Times Square subway complex, since they may not be allowed to exit onto the street.
Riders are urged to exit at stations at 50th Street, 57th Street or 59th Street-Columbus Circle instead and walk to Times Square.
Extra subway service is being provided on the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, A, C, D, E, F, L, N, Q, R and S lines.
Starting at 7 p.m., southbound and northbound N, R and W lines will bypass the 49th Street station until about 12:15 a.m. Thursday. Northbound 1 trains will also bypass the 50th Street station starting at 7 p.m. until around 12:15 a.m. Thursday.
On New Year's Day, Metro-North will operate a special holiday schedule with hourly service on most line segments. Extra service is planned for outer New Haven Line service and regular weekend service on branch lines.
