MTA Cancelling 6 Inbound Metro-North Trains
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Metro-North says it is cancelling two inbound trains per line during the morning rush due to unfinished power supply upgrades.
The railroad says other trains will have extra cars to help alleviate overcrowding on Tuesday morning.
On the Hudson line, two Croton-Harmon super-expresses will be cancelled. They're the 7:19 a.m. and 7:44 a.m. out of Croton-Harmon.
On the Harlem line, two North White Plains super-expresses will be cancelled, the 7:34 a.m. and the 7:57 a.m.
On the New Haven line, two short-run trains that originate in New Rochelle at 7:22 a.m. and 8:31 a.m. will be canceled.
Metro-North says a similar plan was in effect on Monday and there was no serious impact on service.
The disruptions are due to uncompleted weekend maintenance work in the Park Avenue Tunnel.
The MTA is also reducing some subway service on holidays because of low ridership.
The change affects the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 lines.
The reduced service will occur on:
- Columbus Day
- The Friday after Thanksgiving
- Christmas eve
- For three days following Christmas
- New Year's Eve
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- Good Friday
The MTA estimates it will save $200,000 a year.
