Mount Vernon Man Faces Homicide Charges After Fatal Crash On Saw Mill River Parkway
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A Mount Vernon man faces a variety of charges related to a fatal July 2012 crash along the Saw Mill River Parkway.
Kenyatta Garner was behind the wheel of a black 2010 Mercedes Benz when he lost control of the car and smashed into a Honda and flipped several times, prosecutors said.
Garner, 36, was going 98 mph at the time of the crash, prosecutors said.
Two of the passengers in Garner's Mercedes were thrown from the car and died. Two other passengers were hospitalized.
Garner suffered broken bones and other internal injuries, prosecutors said.
It turns out that Garner had taken the car from a parking garage in the Manhattan without the owner's knowledge, prosecutors said.
Garner is charged with two counts of criminally negligent homicide, two counts of assault, speeding, and unauthorized use of a vehicle. He faces up to four years in prison for each of the homicide charges.
Bail was set at $30,000.
Garner will be back in court May 22.
