MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was wounded in a shooting in Mount Vernon early Monday after police said a dispute that started inside a club spilled out onto the street.

The shooting happened around 2:45 a.m. outside a club on Gramatan Avenue, police said.

Few details about the initial dispute are known, but police said a 25-year-old woman was shot in her upper left thigh. She was taken to an area hospital where she was treated and released. No one else was hurt.

Mount Vernon Police Commissioner Ron Fatigate said "several key players are being questioned" adding that a weapon was recovered at the scene.

"Our Quality of Life Task Force will continue to focus on this establishment and others like it that fail to secure their premises and their patrons," he said in a statement. "Thankfully, there were no serious injuries. Police presence was strong in the area and the response to the scene was swift."

The investigation is ongoing.
