Mosque Developer: Trump's Offer 'Cheap Attempt' At Publicity
NEW YORK (CBS 2/WCBS 880) -- The developer of the proposed Islamic center near the site of the World Trade Center is calling Donald Trump's offer to buy him out a "cheap attempt to get publicity."
On Thursday, Trump said he wanted to buy the site on Park Place – for 25 percent above what the developer paid – as long as the mosque would be moved at least five blocks away from ground zero.
In a letter, Trump said he made the offer "not because I think the location is a spectacular one (because it is not), but because it will end a very serious and inflammatory and highly divisive situation."
The developer immediately rejected Trump's offer.
